I saw this image, painte by Millais, at an exhibition of his work in London, and as soon as i saw this image, I recognised it. This “track” is now the old A9 heading north to Birnam. Now, the railway is on the left, and the hill behind is Birnam Hill. I grew up in a house just below the ridge in the centre of the picture. i used to travel along this rad every dsay in the school bus between 1963 and 1969.
Climbing Birnam Hill from our house, I painted the view in the opposite direction in the early morning when the sun was rising.

Millais painted his picture on the white road in the bottom right hand side of this picture.
The landscape here in the early morning with autumn mists is magical.
