I used GIS ArcView to create maps of preferred cycle routes in Dacorum in Hertfordshire.

A Steering Group of keen cyclists was formed, and each member was given a blank map and asked to mark on it where they would like to see cycle route improvements. This harnessed local knowledge of the users. Then as a group these were prioritised as essential, desirable and hopeful, and using GIS I plotted these and issued maps for further discussion. Untimately, I produced a strategy which was then issued to the County Council. It would be useful when negotiating Planning Agreements over hte longer term to achieve these routes, where initial capital funding was not available.
